The Church, the Toy, and the Cardboard Box
A polished service can capture attention, but an open community invites participation. What draws people back is often the sense that they can help create something, not merely watch it happen.
Thoughts on communication, design, leadership, ministry, AI, and the systems that help good work survive real life.
A polished service can capture attention, but an open community invites participation. What draws people back is often the sense that they can help create something, not merely watch it happen.
Most church communication hands people groceries and calls it dinner. A plan serves the meal: one reason, one clear next step, and the story underneath.
Marketing did not invent the customer journey. It noticed how relationships have always formed, slowly, through repeated experiences where words and actions agree. Knowing the path changes how a church prepares a place.
The Gospel is for everyone. A local church is called to serve real people in a real place. Our communication becomes more generous, not less, when we know who they are.
A useful persona is not a stock photo with a clever name. It is what happens when your mission learns to listen to the people you are called to serve.
God did not hand your church a story to keep safe. He handed it over to be invested, and trusted you to do the work. Stewardship is not what you protect. It is what you invest.
Whether intentional or accidental, your church is already shaping what people believe, remember, feel, and expect. The only question is whether you are stewarding that perception on purpose.
"I prefer..." Two words, technically. And they cost more than your entire design budget.
Branding is not the referee. Brand is. It gives your team a shared standard so every creative decision does not become a preference fight.

Maybe your story is clear, but the way people experience it is not. Maybe your team is doing good work inside systems that make everything harder than it needs to be. Or maybe you know something needs to change, but you are not sure where to begin. I would love to hear what you are working through. No pitch and no packages, just a conversation about the story God has given you to tell and how we might help people experience it more clearly.
